Today 9th May, Europe celebrates Europe Day. This day commemorates when French foreign minister Robert Schuman presented the Schuman Declaration. The latter proposed the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community, whose members would pool coal and steel production. Back then, nations of Europe were still struggling to overcome the devastation resulting from World War II.
In a video message commemorating Europe Day, Olgierd Geblewicz, President of the Westpomeranian Region and President of EPP-CoR Group said “For me the EU is a project built on our roots and outstanding European heritage.” He added that living in a peaceful Europe led to development and gave citizens prosperity and equality. He concluded by saying that although we celebrate Europe day separately, cities and regions stand together for a stronger Europe.
In a separate message, EPP leaders representing villages, cities and regions from all across Europe shared a message. They reaffirmed that together we are safer and more successful, smarter, stronger and thus can care of each other.
