| The EPP-CoR Group welcomes the deal reached during by the Council of the European Union on the EU Budget for the next 7 years (2021-2027) and the recovery fund which are key to provide necessary resources to cities and regions to complete necessary projects close to citizens and pave the way for Europe's recovery and twin transitions.
Olgierd Geblewicz, President of West Pomerania Region and President of the EPP-CoR Group said "I welcome a historic Deal by EU leaders on the EU budget with a Rule of Law Mechanism of up to 1.8€ trillion to be spent on concrete projects to boost our local economies after the COVID-19 crisis, and make our villages, cities and regions more resilient, sustainable and digitalised." During a debate with Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-president of the European Commission for Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight, held during the CoR plenary session Geblewicz insisted on the need to engage regional and local authorities in the design and implementation of the resilience and recovery plans. Nikola Dobroslavić, Prefect of Dubrovnik-Neretva County said "The deal reached by Council on the MFF and on the Next Generation EU plan is a very good news for regions and cities. We now have the assurance that we can start to implement key projects that citizens need. These projects and initiatives are key to recover our economies and make them more resilient in the future. The EU budget and Recovery Fund will also be an opportunity to drive forward our green and digital transitions. Member states proved again that the agreement in the common interest can be reached." Emil Boc, Mayor of Cluj-Napoca and EPP-CoR Coordinator in the COTER Commission said "EU leaders have unlocked a historic €1.8 trillion budget deal #MFF. Now local and regional leaders can start with the implementation, rebuild our economies, and bring forward our green and digital transformation to our cities and regions." |
