"I encourage young people to be courageous and ambitious in their reflections. Today's dialogue on key local matters is an opportunity to bring the voice of young people at the European level as conclusions will be shared with the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) to shape opinions that have an impact on our lives." Isabel Urrutia Regional Minister for the Presidency, Justice, Security, and Administrative Simplification of Cantabria and EPP-CoR member made these remarks during a Local Dialogue supported by the CoR with young people.
This local dialogue with youth offeres a space for youth to reflect and participate in a discussion on the challenges being faced in the European Union including the environment, technology, and immigration promoting debate and the involvement of young people in building Europe's future.
The Speaker of the Parliament, María José González Revuelta, highlighted the strong commitment to the future of Europe and the key role of youth in a time of major transformation: “This Parliament has an extraordinary interest in the future of Europe, not only from the perspective of the regions, but as a common project based on coexistence, culture, and democratic values. We want a Europe that is safe, innovative, and at the forefront of science and well-being,” she stated.
González Revuelta underscored the importance of youth reflection in a context of global change that directly affects Europe's position in the world. She also expressed her gratitude for the support of the Government of Cantabria, through the Ministry of the Presidency, and the European Committee of the Regions in organising this event, which included collaborations with universities, technology centers, and the Cantabrian Youth Council. "Last years' experience was very positive and has motivated us to repeat it. We want to hear from young people with different perspectives and backgrounds, because their voices are fundamental to the future of Europe," the president stated.
She also noted that the Cantabrian Parliament continues to strengthen its commitment to youth through various initiatives, such as the new Cantabrian Youth Law, currently being drafted, and programs such as the "Audaces" exhibition, the University Debate League, and the School in Democracy educational visits.
