The 2025 Italian Regions Cup presented at the CoR in Brussels during an event "CYCLING, VALUES AND TERRITORIES"
“I am very pleased to be in Brussels today, at the heart of the European institutions and their territories, to reaffirm the importance of supporting a European sports model rooted in values—as outlined in my own-initiative opinion, unanimously approved by the European Committee of the Regions (CoR). This values-based approach to sport must remain a priority for the EU. It is essential not only for strengthening the sector, but also for fostering democratic growth and helping young people develop vital skills." These were the remarks of Roberto Pella, EPP-CoR member and President of the Professional Cycling League, during the event Cycling, Values and Territories, held in Brussels. The event was organized by the League of Professional Cycling in collaboration with the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, and took place under the patronage of the European Committee of the Regions during its plenary session.
Pella, who serves as Mayor of Valdengo and Member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies added that local and regional authorities play a crucial role in this effort. "Cycling, in particular, stands out for its ability to promote social cohesion and equality, thanks to its accessibility and deep connection to history and place.”
The initiative focused on key themes such as enhancing local territories through cycling, promoting equal opportunities through sport, and improving community health and well-being by hosting sporting events and encouraging active lifestyles.
As part of the event, the 2025 Italian Regions Cup was officially presented. Now in its second edition, this joint project of the Professional Cycling League and the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces offers an exciting competition between top Italian and international cycling teams. It is part of the prestigious ProSeries circuit and featured in the UCI Europe Tour calendar. The Cup includes 31 races—21 men’s and 10 women’s events—across 11 Italian regions, celebrating not only athletic talent and passion for cycling, but also the identity and character of local communities.
“Cycling is a sport that blends passion and determination, teamwork, and resilience—capable of turning every road into a journey through the beauty of our country,” said Massimiliano Fedriga, President of the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces. “With this second edition of the Coppa Italia delle Regioni, we aim to further strengthen the deep connection between sport and local communities. Each stage of the race showcases the diversity and richness of our heritage—not only in landscapes, but in culture and tradition. Thanks to its innovative format and strong territorial ties, the Cup can serve as an inspiring and replicable model for other European countries, promoting sport as a powerful driver of growth, inclusion, and local identity.”
The initiative was also attended by Alberto Cirio, President of the Piedmont Region and Sari Rautio, President of the EPP-CoR group.
