The EPP Group in the European Committee of the Regions (EPP-CoR) has appointed Mr. Filippo Terruso, the longest-serving administrator of the Group, as its new Secretary General.

The President of the EPP-CoR Group, Sari Rautio, said: “I am looking forward to work with Filippo. He served many EPP elected officials at all levels of the EU governance and is a strong promoter of a Europe close to the citizens through regional and local authorities. Together we will work within the broader EPP family to secure the territorial dimension of EU policies is secured.”

In his new role, Terruso will lead the EPP-CoR Secretariat, the backbone of the EPP-CoR Group. The EPP-CoR is the largest political group in the European Committee of the Regions, with 122 full members and 118 alternates from across the EU.

Mr. Terruso brings extensive experience, having served for over 25 years in the EPP-CoR. During this period, he has worked in the cabinet of several Presidents of the European Committee of the Regions. Most recently, he served in the Cabinet of Apostolos Tzitzikostas, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism.

Terruso holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomatic Affairs from the University of Trieste, Italy.

He will assume his duties as Secretary General on 1 December 2025, building on the work of Dr. Heinz-Peter Knapp, the outgoing Secretary General who has held the position since the establishment of the European Committee of the Regions.
