The European People’s Party Group in the European Committee of the Regions (EPP-CoR) welcomes the appointment of three of its members as rapporteurs in the SEDEC Commission (Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture). The newly appointed rapporteurs will lead key opinions on Europe’s research infrastructures, cultural policy, and LGBTIQ+ equality—three strategic priorities for a stronger, innovative, and more cohesive Europe.
Markku Markkala to Lead Opinion on the European Strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures
Markku Markkula, President of the Helsinki City Council, has been appointed rapporteur for the opinion on the European Strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures.
His work will focus on boosting Europe’s scientific excellence, enhancing access to research infrastructures across all regions, and strengthening innovation ecosystems that support SMEs, universities, and regional development. Timeline includes:

Tanya Hristova Appointed Rapporteur for Opinion on the Culture Compass for Europe
Tanya Hristova, Mayor of Gabrovo (Bulgaria), will serve as rapporteur for the opinion on a Culture Compass for Europe.
Her work will contribute to shaping Europe’s cultural vision for the next decade, strengthening cultural participation, safeguarding heritage, empowering cultural and creative sectors, and reinforcing culture as a driver of social cohesion and regional development. Timeline includes:

Susanne Wahlström to Draft Opinion on LGBTIQ+ Equality
Susanne Wahlström, Mayor of Habo Municipality (Sweden), has been appointed rapporteur for the upcoming opinion on LGBTIQ+ equality.
Her opinion will focus on the role of local and regional authorities in promoting inclusion, safeguarding fundamental rights, and ensuring non-discrimination across Europe’s communities.
