The rapporteur of the opinion, Mr Dimitrios Kafantaris (EL/EPP) Municipal Councillor of Pulou – Nestoros in Greece, warmly invites you to participate in a consultation meeting with relevant stakeholder organisations and local and regional authorities to consult and gather contributions on the key issues to be addressed in this opinion. 

The European Commission published the Communication on integrated wildfire risk management on 25.3.2026 in the context of rapidly escalating wildfire risk across the European Union, and following the 2025 wildfire season, during which the total burnt area exceeded unprecedented one million hectares in the EU. The draft opinion will be adopted at the NAT commission meeting on 1-2 October 2026 and at the CoR plenary on 2-3 December 2026.

The meeting will take place in hybrid mode in Greek with interpretation to/from English.

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is currently drafting an opinion on the "Integrated Wildfire Risk Management ".
