Imagine a life of poverty – can you picture a way out?
By taking part in our one-minute film competition young people have the chance to make a short film that we'll publish on our specially designed YouTube page for the world to see, be part of a collection of films on a specially produced DVD, win a prize and a trip to Brussels in December to see your film on the big screen.
Why we organised this competition
The EPP believes that it is important to give you the chance to show us what you think about the European Union and its policies. Building a more inclusive Europe is considered vital to achieving the EU's goals of sustained economic growth, a greater number of good quality jobs and more economic, social and territorial cohesion. Within this context, the European People's Party recognizes the importance of placing poverty and social exclusion at the heart of the EU agenda - especially following the financial and economic crisis and the impact that this has had on Europe's citizens.
Ten years ago, EU leaders pledged to 'make a decisive impact on the eradication of poverty' by 2010. However, nearly 80 million people – or 16% of the EU population – are still living below the poverty line and facing serious obstacles in accessing employment, education, housing, social and financial services, in particular in urban areas. Moreover, as 2010 has been dedicated to the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, we thought we should ask young adults for ideas to stop poverty given that you are at a stage in your life where uncertainty and vulnerability is everywhere.
