The CIVEX Commission of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) has appointed Jelena Drenjanin as rapporteur-general for the opinion on "A Simpler and Faster Europe: Communication on Implementation and Simplification."

Following her appointment, Jelena Drenjanin stated: "I look forward to contributing to the work on making Europe prosperous by lifting off heavy bureaucracy."

About the Communication

The European Commission’s communication on "A Simpler and Faster Europe" is a key initiative within the broader Competitiveness Compass and the Omnibus Package. It aims to streamline EU rules, enhance regulatory efficiency, and reduce administrative burdens for businesses, citizens, and public authorities. By simplifying regulations and accelerating their implementation, the initiative seeks to boost economic growth, foster innovation, and improve governance across the EU.

Next Steps

The opinion will follow an accelerated timeline:

•          CIVEX 22 May: Exploratory debate (further exchange of views in BRASS-G in the same week)

•          Plenary 2 July: Adoption (opinion to be delivered by 20 May, with a possible derogation to include outcomes of the exploratory debate and BRASS-G consultation)

This approach will allow for a swift and informed decision-making process, ensuring that local and regional perspectives contribute effectively to the EU’s efforts to cut red tape and enhance competitiveness.
