In January 2025, the European Commission launched a comprehensive action plan to improve the cybersecurity of hospitals and healthcare providers across the EU. As healthcare systems increasingly become targets of cyber and ransomware attacks, this plan aims to strengthen the security of the health systems. The action plan is structured around four pillars: prevent; detect; respond and recover; deter.
Indicative timeline for adoption:
- discussion and adoption in NAT commission on 21-22 May;
- final adoption at the Plenary session on 2-3 July.
