Rodi Kratsa, Governor of Ionian Islands Region was appointed Rapporteur on the Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act, a much-anticipated forthcoming proposal from the European Commission.
In her reaction after the appointment, Kratsa said that “The digital world has experienced a continuous growth in the past years, and recently we have experienced a particular fast growth and a new online environment. The EU has to step up and act in adapting its regulations to the latest developments in the direction of legal clarity and legal coherence. The new legislation needs to consider liability and safety rules for citizens, consumers and businesses operating online, in order to complete our digital single market. In parallel, it is necessary to invest in high level infrastructure and training.”
Rodi Kratsa has a long service in the European political scene. She served as Member of the European Parliament from 1999 until 2014. She was elected 1st Vice-President of the European Parliament in 2007 and elected again in 2009 serving in this role until 2012. She held high-level responsibilities, such as on the conciliation procedure, the communication and information of the European Parliament, Euro-Mediterranean relations, as well as representing the European Parliament at the Summits and Inter-ministerial Conferences.
